Economics of Scale & Future of AI Agents
I was listening to Dara Khosrowshahi and he said that in long run economics of scale win when it comes to any business. With AI in picture who wins Uber, Tesla, Waymo or someone else? It depends on how much excess money can your business generate and put back into it. With Open Source AI model like DeepSeek in picture it is empowering entrepreneurs and tech companies with cutting-edge capabilities like of Google and Open AI at little to no cost in R&D.
Now, when new software and services are created it other costs will be really important the CAC, Fixed Costs, Operational Costs, Scaling Costs, Operational Costs. This levels the playing field for companies across the globe, it matters less if you’re operating from Indonesia or US, what matters is the cost to customer and user experience.
Beyond the economics, what excites me most is the rise of AI Agents — autonomous systems that can perceive, decide, and act without human intervention. Unlike traditional AI, which mostly responds to commands, AI agents actively execute tasks and make decisions.
Current State of AI Agents
- Consumer Usecase: This is where Open AI’s Operator is growing towards. An AI agent that seamlessly plans vacations and handles grocery shopping without any manual effort. It checks your calendar, books flights and hotels, and even suggests activities based on past trips. Meanwhile, it monitors your pantry, predicts shortages, and auto-orders groceries based on your dietary habits. Whether it’s a beach holiday or restocking essentials, this AI ensures everything is planned effortlessly.
- Business Usecase: This is where Gemini + Google Calendar or Microsoft 365 is currently developing towards. An AI agent that automatically summarizes meeting notes, sets follow-ups, and schedules future discussions transforms workplace efficiency. After a meeting, it extracts key action points, assigns tasks, and schedules the next check-in without human intervention. It even syncs with your calendar, ensuring meetings are optimized based on availability and urgency. No more missed follow-ups — this AI keeps projects moving forward smoothly.
How does 5 years from now look like?
Business Perspective: The rise of AI agents will drastically transform how startups are built and operated, accelerating growth while minimizing costs. Core business functions such as software development, marketing, design, and legal compliance will be managed by AI agents like Devin, each performing at the top 1% of human expertise but at a fraction of the cost. As a result, company sizes will shrink, with fewer employees needed to run highly efficient and scalable businesses.
Consumer Perspective:
- Financial Management → AI will automate investing, budgeting, and expense tracking, providing real-time financial insights with minimal user effort.
- Health & Nutrition → AI-powered assistants will manage diet plans, suggest optimized meal choices, and track fitness progress based on individual goals.
- Healthcare Monitoring → AI will continuously analyze health metrics, schedule necessary tests, and provide real-time diagnostics, reducing reliance on traditional checkups.
- Education & Learning → AI tutors will personalize learning paths, track progress, and adapt teaching methods to maximize individual potential.
This shift isn’t just about automation — it’s about unlocking billion-dollar opportunities. By making humans far more efficient, businesses can scale faster and drive greater impact. (More efficient people → impactful work → Better Services & Value→ More traction → More Revenue)
