How motivation is stopping you from growing?
TLDR; High intensity kills routine.
Do you ever think “If I work 70 hours a week like a person X, I can grow really quickly and earn X dollars in 2 years. But you end up doing nothing.”
Let me tell you a story related to it.
A lot of people around me at the gym work really hard like doing 100 kgs of squats and benchpress. Others get motivated seeing these heavy lifters and then they lift heavy. Their mindset is:
“If you can do it, so can I.”
What is common in most lifters is — bad postures, elbows being too wide apart, legs not symmetrically spread in a squat, and uncontrolled pushing of weights. This leads all the inspired people to injuries and weeks off from the gym.
People think that they gave their best so why did they fail?
Most lifters just copied the motions others are doing without understanding the why and how?
I was one of these heavy lifters 😅 and learn things the hard way after a few injuries.
After learning proper posture techniques, recording my workout, and asking the trainers for feedback I realized:
Muscle growth, pump and fun happened for me when weight is 30% less than max where I control weights every single moment.
So, what’s the lesson here?
Most of us push ourselves too hard(high intensity) after taking inspiration from others in studying, doing our job, or working out.
We end up been bored, burned out or injured which kills our routine and we take more time recovering from it than working on our dreams.
What did I learn in hindsight?
Copying other people’s principles without realizing my own was stopping me from growing.
What works for Elon or people in the gym might not work for me. I as a person have totally different values, physique, mental models, and pain threshold.
I am not lesser than anyone just different.
Now, I pick specific traits and frameworks from people and try it. If it works, I keep it or I look for something new.
